Hi all

I have just recently purchased a 15 gal (60 litre) tank. I have just finished setting the tank up and noticed that it is unlevel!! The water at the front of the tank is about 1/2 " higer than at the back. The tank is sitting on a chets of drawers so i am unable to put shims under the corners! The tank already has a sterofoam base betwen it and the top of the chest of drawers, would it be possible to add more sterofoam to the front of the tank to level it out? also as its a small tank will the water being uneven make much of a differance or cause problems?

I would say yes. Having a level tank is important, regardless of size, as the pressure the water places on the glass will, over time, weaken either the glass or the joints.
Having said that, if you have a polycarb or perspex tank (i.e without sealant at the corners) its less of a problem, unless the water is spilling out.

Next time you do a water change, see if you can add something at the front to level it out.
It doesn't have to be fastideously level, but closer would be better.

Hi

I still need more help with my unlevel fish tank!! The tank is now level from front to back using shims but i have noticed that the tank is unlevel from left side to right side by 4-5mm is this ok now! The tank is only 15 gallon so i think i might be getting worried over nothing!!

thanks for the help

I'd check whether the chest of drawers is level and adjust that instead. That way you can be sure that your entire structure from tank down to floor is optimised to manage the forces exterted by the tank.

Imagine the weight bearing down on a structure where the verticals are not quite vertical.
