hey guys so starting up my marine tank been a couple of weeks, and finally got money together for the rest of it after spending my tax check getting the hardware.

so ive got my 4ft tank with corner box overflow with hole at the bottom.
first question is what sort of pipe is best to bring water from the overflow box down to the sum?

also just wondering if anyone uses a Hailea immersible pump, and i think im answering my own question right there but ill still check, does it sit in the sump as i was told, just seems wierd as there is obviously electricity involved as wont the lead be in the water to?.

one final thing i wasnt sure on was the return. im planning to use pvc piping and was just wondering how the best way to return the water into the tank is? should i just have one long pipe across the top with holes in it like my freshwater pipe? or should i have 4 single return pipes like ive seen in others running from the main at intervals along the top?

any other info u need plz ask

Google "Durso Standpipe" and use that for your drain :)

Yes, the pump sits directly in the water. It's sealed ;)

The return is all up to you. Whichever method you choose, make sure you have anti siphon breaks, AND use a check valve on the return line.

You could also look into putting a T-fitting to divert some flow from your pump output if your pump is to powerful for the overflow. Putting a ball-vavle on each side of the T will allow you to divert some of the flow back into the skimmer or fuge chamber of the sump....

Ox :good:

i used solvent weld pipes for mine from the local diy shop. Have to leave it to go off but then its drinking water safe. Lengths of pipe were £2. and all the connectors and elbowes were <£1

any help on putting this all together will be much appreciated, ill be going to the fish shop tommorrow to speak to the guy who quoted the stuff and built the tank and sump but yeah plz help :). i think maybe we may have stuffed up with the sump also, if the protein skimmer is meant to hang on the side of the sump, theres no way it will.

That round black thing with two bits sticking out looks like a silienter. someware on that part ware tge tubeing is on shud be a lil hole? you connect a bit of air line tubing to the round black thing and leave the other hold open on that

the part with the red dial on is the out put you turn this to adject the flow

im gussing with the tubeing bit on goes to the outlet ov the pump i would leave the other end on the pump

and the other pump just looks like a power head to me?

who built that stand? I have two concerns for that setup. First, it doesn't look like you can get the collection cup off the skimmer and out of the stand to clean it. MAYBE through the right side edge (which looks lower), but that's pushing it. You could always remote the skimmer, but it's nice to have it in the sump where in case it overflows, it doesn't destroy your house.

And second, if you're using LR in the tank, don't bother with bioballs ;)

Sorry, can't help with the plumbing, but I suggest you paint the back of the tank black or blue before you have it all set up and it is a pain to do.
