I recently bought a Fluval 405, no more then one month. From day one it leaked when I tilted it to drain the water. It didn't really bother me so didn't give it any attention. Today as always I unplugged the filter to feed my fish. After about a minute I saw water underneath. Water was leaking quite fast and stopped when I turned the power on again.
I cant understand whats wrong. I took apart the filter three times with no avail. For some reason the filter leaks with power off. As soon as I get it running everything works fine.
I got to admit, its very scary... just the idea of a power shut-down...

i have a fluval 305, and if i don't check that the rubber seal is greased, mine will leak as wel. did you make sure it was greased/in place? i've also found that it can get bumped out of place after doing filter maintenance.

Found the problem. There is a crack about 9cm on the top cover, where the O-ring is. The crack must be a manufacture error cause theres no way I could have done that. When you place the O-ring around the socket isn't there a gape in the cover, well its in there...

 that's horrible! it should be covered by the warranty though, right?
