Have 2 firemouths. They just started nipping each others fins. I need to sex them to see if they are a pair. Pics are posted on the members aquarium and fish pics forum as i cant post pics here. Also, they are same size, fins appear the same, and one has a slightly redder belly.
Thanks.

cant find ya pics m8 checked ya profile for members tanks but nowt or is that a different thread?? anyway i have small firemouth with red belly, throat like i say hes small had some fins nipped by large female she bout 2" males only bout 1-1.5" tops but ok anuff me rabbiting

male has red belly, throat, chest, and i think slightly long dorsal fin

female has no red at all or not as much red anyway plus she appears more silver than grey between the black stripes hope that helps mate.

what size tank they in and what else with em?? what size are the fish??

i have mine sperated for now me convicts going nuts think they have eggs but me firemotuhs female keeps going for the male cos hes smaller so i got em in 13uk gal tank with divider in middle so they chill out worked for me convicts so hopefully lol but have u got neons with em cos firemouths like them???

also some good tips when feeding ya know the maggots for fishing u get really small pink ones called pinkies bout £1 for half pint but i gave mine some normal maggots and they love em earthworms are good but fishing maggots better cos they have to clean so as not to wipe out any fish lol but yeah try some livebait buddy they go nuts for it

shouldnt be i mean theres definately less chance of disease compared to earthworms plus cos they being used for fishing they have to safe so as not to infect the waterways and suchlike but yeah my female can eat the big ones but depending on size will depend on size of bait but yeah i read on forums they eat worms so maggot where ideal plus aint gotta cut em smaller. another suggestion dunno if can still get but a tub of ants eggs go down well. books i seen say its canivorous so anything meaty is snapped up straight away funny watching em find the smaller end of the maggot to LOL great stuff but yeah give it a go with small earthworm
