Hello

I need a little help with one of my planted tanks. It has been up and running for a while now - about 4-5 months and has slowly picked up problems that I need advice sorting.

Stats first

tank - 35L
Lights - 2x 11 Watt arc pods
PH 6.5
Amonia 0.7 possibly 0.8
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 20
co2 - Nutrafin yeast system
TPN+daily 3ml
substrate is tetra planted soil topped with fine black gravel.

Most plants have algae issues, mostly hair algae. What can i do to get rid of it?

If you look at the pictures you will see that the HC isnt doing so well. I dont know why, lighting wise there is enough wpg and ferts to grow it, at first it went strong, spreading out a lot but then just stopped. it was green and healthy but not growing at all. so `i trimmed it heavily and it didnt grow back. i pulled some clumps out and tried to spread them out but it didnt help much - anyone got any advice?

the Hydrocotyle verticillata seems fine other than the hair algae on it. i had assumed that the hc wasnt growing because of lack of light but if that was the case this would have grown taller towards the light.

the Staurogyne sp. is growing very tall and looks pretty bad at the moment. any advice on that plant?

sorry for the long post - you guys seem to know your thing so please, any advice is very welcome.

sorry for the bad pics -just quick snaps.

i would say it is a CO2 problem due to hair algae and melting of the plants.
try cutting the lighting to 1 11w to make things more manageable, or add a second CO2 unit.

are you using a drop checker?

Hello and thanks for your help. Yes I know that diy co2 isnt very consistent. No - I dont have a drop checker with this tank. I dont want to cut the lighting so I guess I will grab another co2 unit and see if that helps. I am thinking about using easy carbo too and some seacham stuff that kills the ammonia.

Any idea why my ammonia is so high? The tank isnt over stocked or over fed.

firstly i would install a drop checker, and see how the CO2 levels, if you need any help check out the guide in my sig.
i would also use a DIY kit, as it is loads cheaper but exactly the same,

easycabo would be a good move, rather than buying a produc tot remove the ammonia, i would just do some daily 50% water changes until plant health gets better, as rotting plants produce ammonia.

I will ebay a drop checker then. I knew I should have when I set the little tank up but wanted to see if I could get away with it. Obviously not!

Will do some water changes for the next few nights too.

Thanks for helping:)
