Hi,

This is my first time posting here, and I am desperate for help.

Here's the background:
For the past year, I've had a 30 gallon Eclipse tank with various Ciclids (spelling?) and bottom-feeders. All was happiness, haven't lost a fish ever with this tank.

Last week I bought a new tank (the old one had a number of bad scratches on the acrylic glass). The new tank is a 33 gallon square tank (glass). I bought a new heater and a new filter for the tank. Cleaned the tank (rinsing with water only, no sponges or detergents). Filled the tank with water, included the StressZyme and StressCoat, and let the tank sit for two days. All seemed well.

the problem:
I transferred the fish into the new tank on Friday night. Saturday morning, everyone was happy and alive. Saturday afternoon, around 1pm, the fish began displaying signs of distress. The distress appeared as gasping and an apparent inability to get air. Within minutes, four died. I immediately did a partial water change (attempting to introduce oxigenated water into the tank), and re-did the stresszyme and stresscoat. The dying stopped and the fish seemed to settle down, then be ok. All was well on Sunday and through today (Monday) until around 6pm, when the whole gasping/ dying thing began again. Once more I've done a partial water change and re-did the stresszyme and stresscoat. Once again, the fish are now ok.

Any ideas about what's going on? Is there something wrong with the tank? I love my fish and can't stand to go through this. The new tank was supposed to be a joy and now it's just an awful experience. Can anyone help me?

thanks!

For now, the best thing to do is (if you still can) use all the sand/gravel from the old tank, as well as any old filter media if you can, and do daily water changes, and keep testing you water. Hopefully your fish will make it. Good luck!
