Well i just bought a 30 inch pc strip with a 65 watt bulb, a couple bags of eco complete, a piece of driftwood, etc, and now all i need is the tank and plants obviously. I was thinking of either the 20 gallon long (30x12x12) or the 29 gallon (30x12x17) i don't think i want the 37 because it is way to tall. so which should i get the 20 gallon long which is what i'm kind of leaning towards or the 29 gallon? I will have plenty of light if i get the 20 g and only a moderate amount of light if i get the 29, so that's another reason i'm leaning towards the 20.

Go with the 29 gallon. This gives the plants some height to grow. With a 20 long, you're selection in short plants is limited.

Depends a lot on the plants. Taller plants will have problems where the higher tank will help. I have a 20G high, 18" and a 20G long 12" and I have different types of plants for each. But plants tend to be amphibious as well, so they will be able to grow out of the tank some and possibly have some flowering.

We talking US gallons? IF so get the 29, much easier to scape the plants with the extra space. And 65w over 29g is still plenty of light.
