The thing i thought was white spot / Itch im now thinking is something else? My fish had all the symptoms of itch, scratching themselves on the gravel and rocks, i have been treating with medicine. I have since lost 7 of my large Haps in the last 10 days they were all very healthy previous to this. Half of them when they died had large round peices of there skin missing as if a large ulser had burned into them. I noticed tonight they were still itching a bit, so added somemore medicine, but iv just noticed another of my fish now has a large round peice of skin missing like the others before they died :( What the hells going on? Please help.

We need more info on the size of the tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia,nitrite,nitrate,and ph.
Whitespot looks like they have been sprinkled in salt.
Sounds like they have a bacterial infection on top.
Check the gills to see if they are pale with excess mucas on them, or red and inflamed.

with more info we can help a bit more. what medicine have you been using? melafix? quickcure? have you tried to add a bit of salt? it may not help but it should help heal things and lessen the stress. my sisters betta died from an ulcar. it was starting tog et better with melafix but i didn't get the meds to my sister in time. she lives a couple hours away during college so i had to wait till a weekend for her to get it.

if you havent, try a bit of melafix. but others will be able to tell you and help oyu more.

Thanks for the replys. Waters fine as i do a water change once a week. Tank is 720 litres 6'6". I have been told on the cichlid forum that it is probably Coloumnaris disease so im gonna try and get some fungus medication today, fingers crossed.

"waters fine" possibly means that you haven't got the true results that the appropriate tests would give you. i would suggest that if you haven't got the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH testers to get them straight away. a tank as big as yours would need a huge water change once a week. how much water do you change weekly. its surprising how quickly nitrates build up in a tank and high nitrates i think account for 70% of peoples problems it brings down the fishes defenses that help it fight off deceases
