Hi,
Need help. My fish are dying. Swordtails, tetra, placo.. I recently did a stuped thing and sprayed insecticide under my tanks cabinet. Could this be what is cauing unexpect fish death? I did a partial water change and changed the filter media. Any suggestions on what to do to save the remaining fish???? HELP!!

was that the only filter media in there?
does your tank have a lid?
how long have you had the tank...did you cycle it? how big is it and what fish are in there (exactly)
what symptoms are they showing before they die?

I have a 29 gal. tank . Have had it for a good number of years. Yes it is cycled.Has lid. Has a Tetra whisper filter. Contains: Pleco, 2 red tuxedo swordtail,
2 dalamation mollies, 2 tetra serpae, 1 male betta, 2 tetra colombian, 3 neons.
They have been dying off 2 at a time. I think I poisoned them by using the insecticide at the bottom of the tank cabinet.
Do you think my beast bet would be to start all over again the take the tank down, recycle it and start fresh?

Water changes and run some fresh black carbon.
Never spray chemicals near a tank.
Increase aeration.
The damage might have already been done.
How are the fish.

The fish are almost all dead. Lost 2 more today. Dalmation mollie, and tetra still alive, for now.
I learned a valuable lesson. Will it be ok if I take down the tank and start over. What can I clean it with?

If the fish all die strip down the tank start again.
Clean tank with salty water or bleach. Rinse well and let dry out for aday.
Throw sponges away and replace with some new ones.
Then rinse all equipement, ornaments, and plants.
Steralise substrate.
Once you set the tank up again run some fresh black carbon in the filter.
I would then think about doing a fishless cycle.
