I posted on this about a month ago but things are just getting worse. about 6 months ago we went from a 55 gal to a 75 gal. We added new drift wood to the pic first piece was fine. The first pic is right after we put the second piece in. and it got worse from there. A few days later our tank was so red we couldn't see the fish. Though it has been 6 months later the log is still leaking red. The second picture doesn't look bad because I did a 1/3 water change today. After a week of not changing the water it turns red again. My fish guy said it was fine just tanning comming out can't hurt the fish. Heres the problem all my angels died and a bala shark no symptoms fine one night gone the next morning. My fire eel, frog, and gourami dissapeared two nights ago no symtoms just death. and tonight my red tailed shark is not doing well. Nothing on the fish water is testing great no amonia no trates or trites, ph is 7.4 and temp is 78. My question is can the tanning from the driftwood be poisoning my fish. We are very careful not to use any cleaners in the same room as the tank and even bought an air filter. Is there anything being released from the wood that can be causing my fish to die?

Tannins can kill in very strong doses, but it's impossible to get that from bog wood.

So all your test resualt are 0?
Surly the nitrates should be higher you done have enough plants to remove all of them or are u using chemical filteration like active carbon or doing daily water changes?

Also active carbon will help to remove tannins if your not using it already, i had a very bad case in one tank and never killed any fish but toon over 12 months to remove all the tannins.

Do u have any pleco's? as they will eat any dead fish quite quickly, as 1 twig will not do that in one nite.

As for reasons for fish dieing is still not clear of what happening but we'll try to figger it out.

Have you put any new fish into the tank? Or are these all the fish from the 55 gallon?
Are you sure there aren't any symptoms? Maybe a bit lethargic? If a new fish was introduced it could've brought something nasty with it.

I introduced the angels the gourami and 1 glass cat about a month ago . Not lethargic. The only look sick right before they die. No bumps no sores absolutly nothing. Like they will be fine then all the sudden hang out at the bottom, if another fish comes by they will freak out and dart around then back to the bottom. Then they are dead the next morning. I don't know how my nitritates are 0 either. Everyone is telling me it's not normal I do a 10-20 gall water change once a week and the plants are fake. The only things I add to the water are prime to dechlorinate and it says it also kills nitrates and nitrites and the bacteria in the bottle stuff the fish guy said it would give me good bacteria.

i'm pretty sure it's not the tannine's killing your fish, it's pretty harmless.

hard to offer any treatment advice without a diagnosis and with no symptoms you can't really diagnose effectivley. however if it was my tank i'd be trying out an antibacterial med to see if that makes any difference.

I was using melafix because the gourami had a hole in his gill. I stopped treatment 3 days ago. I have been losing fish slowly since the day I switched tanks. I know it's not the tap water because a lady across the street has a 100 gallon tank and it's kickin great. The fish guy says he thinks they are being poisoned from somthing in the water the only thing I could think of was the drift wood

I did check it out but he was the only one with the symptoms. On that site you gave me it says to keep your water cooler for better respiration. Mine is set at 78 do you think it's too high
