Ok so I have a huge problem. Maybe im over reacting but heres the whole story.

I bought a female betta about 1 week and a half ago. I put her in my communtiy tank with my other fish and she and everyone else were fine.

I added 2 africian dwarf frogs 2 days ago. Yesterday I noticed that he was missin abit of his foot. Than I noticed that there was white stuff growing on it. By the time I took him out he died within a half hour in the isolation cup.

I fed my community tank and I than noticed my female betta emily didnt come to eat as usual. I look at her and I notice she now has white stuff on her mouth.... Now I know this is a bad sign... Can you guys give some advice?

Shes in a cup at the moment...

Also I have transfered plants from that tank to my other tank that has my new female betta 'missy' in it. What should I do about her tank? Should I empty everything and clean the gravel and wash the plants etc?

Oh man am I freaking out

Please help ASAP!!!!

DISEASE: FUNGAL INFECTION
GENERAL INFO: If you always add aquarium salt to your betta’s water (1 teaspoon of aquarium salt per 2 1/2 Gal of water) and one drop of Aquarisol per gal, your betta will probably never get fungus. It is contagious, but bettas will more than likely recover if treated promptly.

SYMPTOMS: Betta has white cottony like patches on its body or head. He may be less active, may have stopped eating, fins may be clumped, color may be pale.
TREATMENT: Do a full jar water change. Add “Fungus Eliminator” by Jungle. These are crystals are dosage should be about 30-40 grains per 1/2 gal. Water should have a nice gold color, not too dark. Do not overmedicate! Change water every third day and add a new dose of same medication. Continue until all fungus has disappeared. Then keep betta jarred for another 2 weeks at least and instead of Fungus Eliminator, just add 1 drop of maroxy or of Methylene Blue in your betta’s water to clean any other bacteria/fungus that may still be present. Adding salt to the water would also help healing.

I hope that helps.

I remember you mentioning that your frog had that weird fungus, but I honestly did not imagine it would kill the poor guy, or that it would infect your fish. That really sucks.

Thanks for the quick responces ;)

What should I do about my other new female betta in the 5 gal by herself? I bought new plants but put them in the community tank while I was fixing everything in the 5 gal, than transfered them into the 5 gal.

Is there a chance that now shes infected to? She seems fine so far but than again so did all my other fish with the frog...

Now one of my guppies is sitting on the ground too... Oh and one of my fry just died too.... :-(

Don't treat anyone that isn't showing symptoms and isn't in the same tank. It'll do more harm than good.

No, not to treat. Just to empty the whole tank and wash all the plants and gravel and put fresh water...

Well I emptyed my whole 5 gallon tank with my new betta in it and washed the gravel and plants in hot water. I also washed the filter too... I did this at 3 am in the freaking morning... Boy was I in a bad mood after that.....

Anyways 'missy' the newest edition seem fine but 'emily' is not doing well at all. Her mouth is white and her little eye is really red... And not sees jumping and laying on her side... Its not looking good guys... I have maracyn should I dose her?

:rip: :byebye: So sorry about Emily. I can't imagine why it would have taken her down so fast. I know fungus is bad, but I didn't think it would kill that quickly.

Its really weird because in a matter of 10 hours this fungas killed my emily, a guppy, the frog and a molly fry...

I hope theres no more deaths.

Thanks for your postive thoughts ;)

Is it possible that there was a pH swing or anything?
Like a massive water change, or something?

I guess the only other thing I can think of is a big temp change or something else got into the water to wipe out so many so fast.

Stuff like that sucks because it's SO hard to figure out.

You don't by chance use any kind of water filter on your tap, do you?
Just reaching here, but have to ask.

hi,
I dont use a filter on my tap water. I did do a water change a day before this happened and i took out alittle more that usual - about 35 %. I usually take out 25 %.

You guys can see my post in chit chat 'they keep dying'

Thanks for all your help :-(
