Hi There,
I need some advise,
I have a two hundred gallon tank aquarium and it's been setup for two and a half years.
I have a 1 blue damsel and 4 cromies, they've been in the tank for 2 years, now a added a pair of percula clowns, bi-color angel, a goby, a coral beauty, a blue tang.
after a day, the coral beauty died seems that it's not eating and just died.
then the next day the goby died, then the the next day the tang died as well.

I have checked my water and several times to make sure everything is good.
All test came out perfect, I evern brought a sample to the store to make sure and sure enough, it is good.

I have some anemone, a flower pot, a bubble, and one hard coral and they are all good.

now I'm down to 1 clown, angel, 1 damsel and 4 cromies.

I'm i doing something wrong?

again my setup is:
200 gallon acrylic tank
740 watts total lighting
150 lbs of Live rock
120 lbs of live sand
Del ray 250 wet and dry sump
Mag 12 pump as a return pump
Rio 3100 as a earation pump
modified seaclone 150 as a skimmer (collector and pump is bigger)
rena xp3 as a secondary filter pump
powerhead 802 as a seconday earation pump
flival 404 as a third filtration
15 watts tetra UV Light
Please, I need help.
I'm about to give up buying fish
Thanks

Any chance of posting your Test results

Sg
Temp
Ammonia
NitrIte
NitrAte
& all the rest

Is it possible there have been any toxins introduced near the tank (hairspray,Air fresher, bug spray etc)

Did you add al the new additions at once

SO only the fish that you just introduced died? It could be possible that the fish were sick before you even got them. I would recommend quarantining your fish before you introduce them to your main tank. A list of your water paramaters would help ruling some other possibilities out.

I would start by looking at your LFS. We dont have any idea on their practices of course so we can only speculate but this has also happened to me.

The reason i put it down to was because the fish had not spent any time acclimatising before coming home to my taqnk. They were flown across the world and intothe distributors, then within 24 hours they were delivered to the shops and within a few hours of arriving in hte shop they were being sold. This is an enormous amuont of stress for most fish and many dont make it past a few days into their new homes.

I agree on the quarentine tank, its really made a huge difference to my tank.

Thanks for the replies!
Okay,
I'll retest my tank tonight and share the results to you all.
Right now the only fish left is one bi-color angel, 1 clown, 1 damsel and 4 cromies.
The cromies and the damsel was been in thee tank for 2 and a half years now.

But I noticed that the bi color angel is not eating and same as the clown.

The Clown was not eating on the first day it was added but he started eating after that and now he's not eating again foor two day now
Hmmm, just wondering about the air freshener, It is on the kitchen and the tank is in my living room.
Do you think this may affect it?

just curious.......did you have a 200g tank for 2 years with just 5 fish in it?

yes, that is true.
I have the tank setup for 2 and a half years with only 5 damsels in it.

It was originally setup as a fresh water tank and dicide to switch to saltwater after 7 years of fresh water experience.

Now here is my results of my tests
Ammonia - 0
Nitrate - 0
Nitrite - 0
PH 8.2
SG (Specific Gravity) - 1.023
Temp - 80 - 81 degrees

Now the Bi-color angel and the clown died this morning.
all that is left in the tank is again the 6 Damsels
I'm thinking, would it be the damsels are attacking the newly added fishes?
I don't know how accurate my analysis, but I have the yellow tail blue damsel and It seems that it's always near the fishes that I have added.
Please advise.
Thanks again
Lewis

Sounds like you would benefit from keeping a closer eye on the behavior of the fish in your tank. You should have been able to see if the damsels were beating up yoru newly added fish (which is a VERY good possibility.) I would personally get rid of the damsels, they are known for becoming very territorial and intolerant of new arrivals. Then I would test the water again, and stock the tank slowly with less territorial fish.

i have 4 yellow tails and can quite see how they would kill a new fish (even more so after 2 years on their own!)

mine were happy to attack my clowns (twice the size of the yellows) when they move area to host an anemone- if i hadnt stepped in with some distration they would have killed them within a few days.

they also attacked a coral frag i put in a place they didnt want it! 2 inch high hammer frag that they would bash of its reef putty before it set- gave up in the end!

i would go with the stress probs aswell, luckily my LFS is good person for he QT them for 2-4 weeks before put on display :D

Hi Everyone,
Now I found out the problem.
Before, I use water that came from the refrigerator's water dispenser to thaw the frozen brine shrimp.

somehow my habbits changed and used tap water from the faucet to thaw the food.

I have tested the food that was thawed using water from the faucet to a cheap damsel in my quarantine tank.
The damsel died after a couple of days.
I tried a damsel again and used water from the fridge, and the fish is still in very good shape.
The water from the fridge is being filtered by RO/DI (Reverse Osmosis)
Now no fish dying and all my corals are openning and very healthy.

The lesson is:
Use bottled water to thaw the food for you fish.
I'm learning
Thanks,
Lewis

Wow you should do some tests on that water!
I would love to learn the results.
