Need Advice

At the moment I'm running an under gravel filter & a small internal sponge filter. I've had the tank set-up
for 4 months.
My boyfriend just bought me an external bio-chemical filter "Jebo 815" and I need to know how I swap over filters so I don't kill off my good bacteria?
Do I leave the sponge internal filter running or the undergravel filter running while the new one builds up bacteria or do I take the foam inserts out of my internal filter and put them in the new one?

Please help I don't wanna hurt my lil fishies, they're all doing so well but I don't wanna hurt my boyfriends feelings either by not accepting his expensive gift and not using it.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Run all 3 filters together for 2 or 3 weeks. After that start turning down the air flow a little each day to the ugf & sponge. After a week they should have very little flow, and you can disconnect them.
