the betta is getting more aggressive by the day, so hopefully i will be taking him back.

and my guppys are ripping each other to bits so i will be getting 3 more males to try even things out a bit.

i want another fish though to fit in with my red tailed shark, 9 guppys, in a 10 gallon tank.

what fish can you recommend?

my shark wont come out of hiding because the betta wont leave him alone. he is very pleasent to the guppys for a rts and from what i have heard of them

You could maybe get away with some bottom dwelling fish like corys if you have sand or very fine rounded gravel substrate in your tank, if your substrate is not this though you go for peaceful shrimp like amano or cherry shrimp etc.
You will need to get a much larger/longer tank for your shark though as it grows, these sharks need a tank at least 3ft in length.
I wouldn't advise getting more male guppys though as you don't have the space (if you over-crowd the tank with male guppys it will most likely just make the problem worse), what i would advise doing is deciding which males are the most agressive and then rehoming them or swapping them for less agressive ones  .

Seems to be alot of fish for the size of your tank. Not surprised that the betta is aggressive. Are you saying with the 3 more guppies, that you will have 12 overall, along with the red tailed shark? Sounds like enough to me. Also quite surprised that the RTS isn't aggressive, they are usually nasty little buggers. Also i'm not certain of this but i'm sure 10 gallon isn't enough for a RTS, they like swimming space.

no i have 6 guppys, one betta n a shark. the shark is around an inch long at moment if that,

i wanted 3 more guppys which would make 9? so shall i take some guppys back and swap for females? and i will be getting a larger tank when i need one,

You could have up to 9 guppys in a 10gal if it was a rather long 10gal (by the way, what are the measurements of the tank?), but you would be pushing the stocking limits if you did this. Even if you get more male guppys, i would still advise rehoming the main offenders in your group, as male guppys can vary a lot in their agressiveness towards each other.

If you rehomed 4 of your males, you could have 4 females (you need at least 2-3females per male with guppys), or simply got rid of 5 of the males and just got 4-5females instead, guppys work very well when kept in such mixed gender groups however you will end up with a lot of fry from the females over time (if you keep the betta in a separate tank of at least 2gallons though, you could feed any unwanted fry to the betta as betta's will eat young fry).

Hi i have just taken the betta and 4 male guppys back to the store.

i now have 4 pregnant females, 2 males, a red tailed shark n 2 snails.

next week i may get some platies as they are very pretty.

i dont mind if the shark eats the fry. the tank has lots of cover so i should think they will be ok

well, most platies tend to grow to at least 2 inches. So with six guppies, and and a RTS, and then adding at least 3 platies, it would be extremely crowded in there. I'd recommend getting a bigger tank sooner, if you plan to keep the RTS, that way you'll be able to stock more without overcrowding.

Also make sure you don't get overrun by snails!!

Don't get any platys, your tank has enough fish for now.

I'd recommend 5 or over 5 Tetras. You should have at least a 5 Gallon Tank to have 5 of anykind of Tetras even though they are very small. Glo-Lights don't really bite each other, But they chase after each other and bump each other with they're heads. Tetras live a longer, Happier, healthier life if they have a bunch of other tetras the same species.

I hope you find out the best idea!

BTW, How big is your tank?

dont listen to that, maby 5 neons in a 5g but tetras need atleast 2g per fish. and your tank is not sutable for a schoal of tetras.
