Good day,

I just got my first aquarium and was looking for a good skimmer.
Can u please suggest me one of the very good ones for 28 gal aquarium?

Also I read in some topic that they can overflow with the water,
is there a ways to prevent it? I am really afraid of this.

Thank you for your help!

tunze nano, being an in tank skimmer i dont see how it can spill water on your floor. Plus its a very high quality skimmer, very quite, and did i mention it was very good? I have some pictures of the skimmate in the general marine section.

Well i wont be bias.... there are problems with the tunze, they are very sensitive to water levels so do your best to keep the water level even for your tank, good thing about mine is that i have an ATO (auto top off) so it helps me out.

Great thanks for the information,

I read somewhere on the forum that skimmers might overflow with the water but its a good news that they cant.
Do I have to connect skimmer to the power heads or they work separately?

Also, what is ATO ? :)

Thank again for your help.

the tunze includes everything you need, so you wont need extra pumps etc.

Water can overflow in some skimmer cups, but it hasnt happened to me yet, and if it does it will just fall back into the tank and not on my carpet.

If you get a chance can u look at those one I found 2 kinds of them DOC and Reef
http://www.fishsupply.com/tucosk.html

not sure which one I need for 28 Gal, I am thinking to keep a couple of corals there too but not sure yet
how hard its gonna be with corals.

Thanks.

the DOC is just the skimmer, the reef pack is a skimmer and an internal filter. Go with the 9002 Nano DOC Skimmer or the Nano Reef Pack if you want a tunze skimmer

btw ATO stands for auto top off. When water evaporates, it is mainly water that evaporates. Only very very very very (x100) small amounts of salt and minerals is evaporated. So when you top off tank water you should always use pure water since that is what has evaporated. An auto top off is a system that uses either optical sensors or float valves. Once the water level drops the sensor/float valve turns a pump on. That pump has a tube going into your tank and it pumps pure water in.

that is a video of my ATO, it shows you the controller where all the electrical stuff happens in (the panel with those lights), it shows you the bucket, inside the bucket is a pump with a black tube coming out. In the tank you should see two things, a little black arrow dot thingy, this is an optical sensor, and there is a float valve. The optical sensor is the main controller since those are normally more accurate, the float valve is the back up.

Of course you dont need one of these, you could manually top off daily. Im just lazy and i want a stable system as well as having my skimmer work to its full potential.

Its a tunze ATO, cost me 178 dollars, one of the best ATO systems for sale.

Wow! This is just great! Cool tank, I saw a beautiful clown there:)

Thanks a lot !

Good day,

I am still trying to decide which way to go with the skimmer.
I am checking out the one that Musho3210 gave me an advice to get one.

http://www.jlaquatics.com/phpstore/store_p...ct_ID=tz-ps9002

but my LFS suggested me to get one called Remora Pro it cost aroung $280,
what do u think about Remora.

I also read lots of good things about having a sump, but I have no idea what is that and how
it looks like. What space do I need to get one and apx price.
Still looking on the Net but cant find any price for it.

Can u please help?

Thank you very much.

I see what you mean musho about being lazy, ther is stuff everywhere on that video! lol

Whats going on with your corals?

I cant really help much with skimmers I'm afraid I've only had 2 one was built into a nano reef system and one is V2 skimmer which I aint sure is available your side of the pond?

I am still setting everything up, I dont have any stock yet,
I am thinking to have a couple of corals and see hot it goes for me.
Skimmer is the last thing I have to buy, I am trying to get more info on sump,
to understand if I really need it.
Thank you.

IMHO a sump is the best thing, I cant beleive the difference it makes in the clarity of water, the effectivness of it and how much more pleasent the tank looks without as much equipment in the way! take a look at my tank (link in signature) Its my first and yeah I have gone from a nano to this tank but I think its excellent and much easier and stress free on the fish when I'm doing stuff!

a remora pro for a 28 gallon is A. Unessicary and B. Expensive. A tunze nano is plenty for you. Your lfs just wants a few extra bucks.

Thanks, what about sump, is there a place I can get more info about it,
or I don't really need it, skimmer will do it.

Thanks.

skimmer and sump work very differently. If you had to choose between each other, i would go with a sump. Melev has a good article about sumps, google search him.
