Need Advice For Lighting Please.

Hi people,

My tanks original lighting has become unsafe to use, after a few repairs and advice from my dad (a sparky) i have had to turn it off.
I am now looking for a replacement for the lighting, I have a small tanks only about 40L, my tank is also planted and has barbs in it. any ideas on what to buy and where to get it from? I dont want to spend loads on the lighting. Iv seen LED lights but im not convinced this will work.
any help and advice would be very much appreciated!

i brought a 5m LED strip from eBay ( a waterproof one ) and fitted them to my 4ft tank, its got a few colors and 8 brightness levels a slight pain to fit but it works, for £25

i have just bought a lighting controller unit off ebay for £10 which is great cause it can take almost any tube size and the balast is seperate so nowhere near the water. i used it to make my own hood and it works great
