Need A Sturdy Stand

Well were moving to a new house next year but to help save some extra cash untill the house is built me and the mrs are going to move back in with our parents. My intrapet fish box doesn't have a stand currently as it sits on the kitchen worktop. So will need a stand for moving to my parents house but it has to be a nice one so we can take it to the new house. It has to be sturdy as we have two 6month old kittens(which will only get bigger and heavyer over the next 6month) who take mad spells and evrything in the room becomes a climbing frame for their chases so don't want it falling over as I would never be forgiven by either the mrs or my mum depending on which house they toppled it. I had a look my self on the net but never found much joy, the actual stand for the tank i can only find in black

So it needs to be;



62+cm wide and 32+cm deep, as long as its not excessivly larger
Sturdy, tank is 64l so probibly about 70 odd Kg inc sand water etc
Not black, has to wooden or nice and modern looking for a young persons home
Not fussed about storage space on it
Budget of about £50 possibly a little higher if its really nice

Have you looked around your local second-hand furniture shops and/or charity stores that sell such things?

My previous job was working for S.C.R.A.T.C.H. (http/www.scratchcharity.co.uk/), where we often collected good quality furniture, which was then sold in our shop. Its amazing what some people will offer to such organisations, due to down-sizing, berievements etc.

I got the proper stand for the Interpet Fishbox in Beech from Pets At Home. They do all the sizes. I think mine cost £40 and that's the size for the 64ltr. Check out their website.

Apologies, have just checked the P@H website and the Beech 60cm Interpet Fishbox stand is £50. Look under codwater tank section and you wil find the stand there.

Also check around this site in the lower section. There were some plans for a strudy, easy to build stand. Also, I've noticed that some stuff at a cheap store like IKEA would likely work. I don't know if there is one close to you. But just an idea.

Have a go at making one? I did and it cost me next to nothing. That way you can get it the exact size you want, the right colour and its a stupid amount cheaper!

Most standard furniature items should be sturdy enough, if you're concerned it's easy enough to renforce it with some extra screws and a few bits of wood.

It's solid as a rock. Easy and quick to assemble too.

Had a look in IKEA but i like the peice of mind that the stand built specifically for fish tanks will hold it over time where as house furniture may give way in a few years time. I would build one myself but i don't really have the time trying juggle all the stuff for the new house plus moving out of this house to save cash and work at the same time. plus my other half wouldn't trust it if i made it myself lol

Not had a chance, I checked the website and sort of ticked the box in my head that thats the matter delt with. But I really should get to the actual store and get it so I know I have it for when I need it, potentially in a months time. I'll definately get to the local pets at home this weekend and get it before I leave it too late.

Will be well worth the purchase as it looks really lovely. The wood is really thick and sturdy so you'l have no stability issues. I'm glad I got it as it looks so nice with the tank. It has shelves inside too so you can put all your fishy stuff in there (i'm not on commission honest)

sure yor not on commision? lol sounds perfect for me. modern looking for the misses so it fits with other furniture, sturdy so the kittens won't topple it when they turn into furry wrecking balls, and i get a nice safe place to keep the food and meds etc
