I have a lobster in my tank which is about 2-3 inches in length, is mauvey purple in colour with many yellow spots over him. He looks lovely but is very shy and I dont see him often.

Does anyone know what its called? I see them quite regularly in fish shops but never a sign to say what it is.

Also does anyone have any experience with them? As since I have had him I have found out that he might not be so suitable for my tank and I now have a MIA mandarin :-(

as rule of thumb, if it has claws/pincers it will predate on fish
and is therefor not suitable for community tanks.

look under either long armed shrimp or crayfish
to see if you can ID it yourself.

They're commonly called purple reef lobster although I dont know the Latin. I do know that they're not entirely reef-safe with small, slow, bottom-dwelling fish (mandarins and other gobies especially). Might have a fat and happy lobster :(
