I am getting very dispondent now, with my whitespot outbreak! I upped the temp, and treated half dose (botias) of Protozin last week. Then did a 30% water change ran carbon and UV filter for 24 hours to remove meds and started treating again on Sunday with Ichcide (full dose this time!!!). It is day 5 of treatment and all fish are affected, with the cardinals suffering terribly (I lost one yesterday).

Is this ever going to go or am I destined to lose the lot to this rather horrid strain of Ich?

What else can I do?

Help, please!

Julia

Keep the high temp for a week or 2. You can either discontinue the meds or continue them. I had ich on 1 loach before. I increased the temp on the tank and also added aquarium salt. I also had a clown loach in the tank. I used the regular dosage for the salt. I kept the treatment for at least 2 weeks. I also kept the lights of most of the day, since ich is caused by stress. Turning off the lights most of the day would make the fish rest, therefore, less stress. I was able to cure the loach and have the ich not spread throughout the tank.

If you decide to dose with salt, make sure you use aquarium salt. Dissolve the salt in a pitcher of water first. Once the salt has thoroughly dissolved, slowly pour the salt solution in the tank slowly over a long period of time.

Temp has been increased to 31C. I have seen that it is a temp over 36C that they cannot reproduce, but I dont even think I will try that.

Some of my cardinals actually look scarred now and some have at least a dozen huge spots on them. Words really cannot describe just how annoyed I am

there is a resistant strain of ich about, perhaps you have this.
I'd say a copper based med, like cuprazin, would be the way to go however you have clown loaches so I don't recomend it.

if you can get it (we don't sell it btw) get some of Seras new ich treatment, I can't remember the name
but apparently it is the only ich med that kills the actual cyst. however the bottle recomends an 80%
water change the day after treatment.
speak to Toby, perhaps he has the new treatment in stock.

could you try not putting your carbon in, give the ich another good dose of a new and different whitespot remover, give your gravel a good vac 3 days later then another dose and with your uv run it slower so the water is in the uv light for longer. (if its in the filter out line slow down the filter intake) some how perhaps

I havre found that a salt dip works well. But first treat with a med called quick cure, it works extremely well, then 3 days later do a salt dip on all the affected fish. If that dosent work I am afraid that you have a small chance of getting rid of the ich.

Disaster has struck overnight!!!! I have lost 11 Cardinals, and the remaining 4 wont last long!  :-(

Finished the second course of treatment yesterday, and went to see "The-Wolf" for advice. I have put in carbon filter to clear meds and done a 50% water change. Will restart treatment today with a full course of Myxazin. If that fails, Paul will come and have a look for me.

The ich is so bad that the cardinals even have it all over their eyes.

Fingers crossed for me guys!!!!!
