I have a 30 gal and a 20 gal tank. I do weekly water changes on both, taking about 11 gallons from the 30 gallon and 10 gallons from the 20 gallon.
Now my water has a rather too basic for my liking of 8.0-8.2. It is also quite hard, which leads to water stains on my tank and filter. I hate my tap water.
Now I've always wanted an RO unit, but I'm not fish-crazy enough to pay for a unit just yet. So I've been looking into alternatives and I think I may have found one sitting in my own back yard.
We have a 55 Gal rain barrel. Now I haven't tested it or anything but has anyone ever tried using rain water as an alternative to their tap water in an attempt to make the environment for the fish more neutral for their fish?
Just curious
I'm aware there could be unknown contaminants in it, but I am still thinking it may be worth a try.
