Hi, my first post, so be gentle with me!!

I've been keeping fish for about 6/7 years now. My tank is 90 litre and needs topping up and I was looking about rainwater, but I don't think I should because it's been sat there a while and has bugs in it now.

Whilst searching, I saw you could top up using mineral water is some cases. I have 4 bottles of 5 litre mountain spring water that we're not using - only need maybe 1.5 litre top up.

I am reading the typical mineral analysis and it says (mg per litre)

CALCIUM 10.0
CHLORIDE 15.0
MAGNESIUM 2.2
SULPHATE 11.0
SODIUM 10.0
NITRATE 20.0
POTASSIUM 2.3
BICARBONATE 13.0

Dry residue at 18.0C - 80.0mg/l pH at source 6.5

So my question is, would it be safe to top up using this given the mineral analysis?

Thank you!

Wouldn't it be much cheaper just to keep using dechlorinated tap water?. A large bottle will last months. When you say ''top up'' do you lose a lot between water changes?.

Hi

We won't be using for drinking water now as we have a water filter we are using instead of storing these big bottles in the fridge, it's much easier, so we have them going spare, which is why I was going to use them up in the tank.

I don't lose a lot of water in between changes per se, but in summer it does get warmer and evaporate more, even with the heater turned down. The temperature is stable but there is more condensation on the lid, so I guess I am losing more around this time of the year as its really humid lately.
