Hello all,

I was moving some tanks around in my room since i got new furniture. And i movesd one of my tanks right infront of a window. It does have a background on it so no sunlight is gettin in unless i take the background off.

So my question is, this tank is around 20 gal US and heavily planted. I was wondeirng if i could take the background off and just keep natural light in it, would the plants do ok? ( i have 2 WPG now) I can add c02 if needed, i have a DIY c02 laying around, and can also buy a hagen c02 system which arent that expensive.

So do you think it would be ok? I have heard of it working and not working, just want to kno what the plant experts think!

Thanks

Josh

For the plants it might work as the natural sunlight will grow them. But remember, the light will enter at an angle this way and your plants will tend to shoot in that direction and not up. Same for the fish, this will disorient them and have them swimming at an angle, since they are used to the light coming from the top and gravity from the bottom. I wouldn't recommend this. In addition your heat will increase. This natural sunlight option will turn out to be quite unnatural.

As for the co2, since you say you have a heavily planted tank with 2wpg NOW, (prehaps you will upgrade) you should do co2 anyway. Plants need it.

Good luck
