Would it be alright if I were to go out and get some live plants from a river or pond and put them in my tank/

Would this be safe?

Would it work or not?

If so, what would I need to do in order to properly "prepare" the plants for my tank to eliminate any possible chance of transfer of disease from the plant/lake/river/pond to my tank?

Thanks!

make sure you arent breaking any laws firstly.

then, leave them in a bucket for a few days, see if any micro-organisms are visible,

r, you can do a bleach dip but this may damage the plant. (19parts water : 1 part bleach)

Thanks for the reply!

Would the temperature difference hurt the plants at all?

My tank is probably 20 degrees warmer than the water in lakes and rivers around my house.

I also heard you can treat plants with ick medicine? Is this anything you heard of or would recommend?

Thanks again for the reply!

temperature shouldnt be a difference, it may increase the rate of photosynthesis but nutrients in our aquariums are more concentrated.

ich medicine contains formaldehyde which is extremely toxic, so it would kill any diseases i would think! especially when used at high enough concentrations

Any antibiotic would be good to remove bacterial stuff I would think (someone tell me if it would kill the plants)
