So i bought pair of these in my community tank couple weeks ago. 1st day my insane Apistogramma viejita female decided to beat the nanochromis male. Result was that after 2 hours of waching the situation viejita was in different tank taking vacation and the poor nanochromis male had long tear in his tail. After that all seemed fine. Both of nanochromis eating with good apetite and female shoving her red belly whenever they meet.
Last week i started to see different behaviour. Both of them seem to loose that insane apetite, still eating but not as insanely as in start. So i started to wach them more closely. Male had conquered a coconut shell. When female tryied to enter there male opened his mouth wide open and started approach. Instead of showing her belly female attacked the male. Male fought back and after some fight he went back to his cave. I saw this happen few times.
Now i havent seen them in 4 days and im getting nervous if theres something wrong with them. I checked some of the hiding places while trimming plants but didnt spot them. Tank is 400 Litres and has loads and loads of driftwood and rocks.
Food aint really any problem since food spreads to the tank and i have loads of red cherry shrimps there. I think they might eat them aswell?

What i have read of this fish i understood that the female is usually the beaten one? Do u think this is normal behaviour or something else? Ph6,5 gh8 kh2 no20 no310ish, 28celcius.

Sorry if my english aint too good im a bit of rusty with aquarium vocabulary.

I don't know much about this species, but I do believe they have a love/war relationship with each other.
