hi i have recently started Planted tank wich is 15 gallons but i want to make a small planted nano tank that wont have any fish just plants the tank will be a aqua one 5 gallon tank with undergravel filteration and 11 watt light which comes to 2.2 watts per gallon i was thinking of using hairgrass as the forground plant that is the only plant i can think of can you plz give me some suggestins also i think i wont use a filter or heater will that be alright plz help me

11w over 5 gallons is not very much, I found that until I managed 24w over my 5-gallon tank, plants did really badly - CO2 is useful too. 24w gives me ~4.5wpg and plants really took off.

You can get fish suitable for that tank if you want any suggestions?

yes i know i can get fish for that tank but i dont want to as it is just an experiment also this is what i have so far plant wise

riccia (mayby)
hairgrass
plz give me some plant suggestions

Micro Rasboras might be worth looking at. You could have a species tank of dwarf puffer fish, though I think you might really only get one in that size tank. I have an Aqua40 which I think is a similar tank, its 7gal (US) and has 11w. Currently I'm growing some moss, some Eleocharis parvula and a few other plants. I'm doing basic Estimative Index fertilising on it. Its being neglected a bit, but plants are growing ok :) I might re-scape it again soon. I don't have any fish in it at the moment...

Edit: Stocking wise, I'm actually considering shrimp maybe. I need to get it a lot more densly planted first :) Also considering Galaxy Rasbora, if I can source captive bred fish. Would love to breed these.

any one so far this is a list of plants i like and think would do well in the tank

1) Eleocharis acicularis (hairgrass)
2) Hemianthus callichtroides
3)Rotala rotundifolia
4)Hemianthus micranthemoides

those are the plants i have in mind so far so tell me what you think

Yeh those plants would be good, the red from the rotundifolia would be a nice contract to the green of the others. A nice piece of rock or wood could set the whole thing off nicely too :)

Sam

i was thinking i would put a nice bit of wood as my 2.5 is goin to have ground cover with rocks so this one will be ground cover with wood i might even go for the long stringy wood

suggestions?
