I recently bought a pair of nannacara anomala, they were doing great (besides a little harrassment from the male).

then, within an hour or two of feeding them one day i found the male, who had previously been healthy, hiding in the top corner of the tank and breathing very heavily. He has no signs of a disease or damage but just lies on the ground or floats in a corner breathing heavily and hasnt eaten for a few days.

I thought that the fish may have spawned, but there are definately no eggs in the tank.

All the other fish are fine, its probably too late to save him but help or ideas would be appreciated.

thanks, Tom

Have you cycled your tank?
What are your water stat readings?

the tank has been running for 3 and a half years, so well cycled, i dont know the water stats but the other fish, including the new female, are fine.

Any ideas at all would be hugely appreciated

thanks, tom

Take a sample of your tank water to the lfs and tell them to write the readings down for you.
Invest in a master liquid test kit of your own.
Without stats not going to be easy first thing to rule out.
Check the gills over to see if there pale with excess mucas on them, or red and inflamed.
Water change for now and increase aeration.
