Hi,

I'm a newbie. My son has gotten me/us into the fish hobby. We have two tanks. We started with a 2.5g when we got two free goldfish at my dd preschool party--one died, the other is doing great. We got a swordtail from a neighbor when the one died and they were great together. The other day, the same neighbors gave us their 10g tank which has a Magnum 220 filter (slight overkill!) along with 6 more swordtails. I moved the goldfish and 3 female swordtails to the 10g tank and added 4 white clouds yesterday. Three male swordtails presently live in the 2.5g tank. My son wants a pleco and I've posted a ? at the catfish forum. Not sure what we'll end up with next in our lives, but certainly the tanks are getting any larger for a while.
Looking forward to learning more about keeping fish.

i wouldnt put male swordfish together they kill eachother

Thanks for the information. I know that the male swordtails can be aggressive. They are more so when there aren't enough females in the tank with them. They came from a "home" where MANY (at one time around 50!) swordtails were in one tank. The males definitely ate their fry. Right now, they seem fine. I saved the males and 3 females from being flushed down the toilet. I'm hoping to find them a new home. Nine others did get disposed of, sadly.

OK calm down :) there are a few mistakes there, but lets explain why and point to the correct forum in a friendly manner :p

d'smom, please read some members advice and take it as advice only, not abuse. My advice would be, the goldfish is not in a suitable tank, a pond or bigger tank is best for a goldfish. The swordtails I cannot advise on as I don't keep them, but they do require more space than a 2.5 gallon tank.

:hi: to the forums again hollypop, and :hi: d'smom.
