i got 6 loaches a few months ago, and now im down to one. ever since i got them they just slowly died off one at a time, and i have no idea why. all my water tests are fine every time i tested.

there was a week i went on vacation and a betta i had in the tank got dropsy.

and there was a while where there was an algea problem, but the tank has been moved to a room that gets less sun.

now all thats left is a snail and one kuhli loach. the last one that died was a couple days ago and it looked fine, it just acted odd, shaking randomly and stuff.

what couldve killed them? im afraid to put anything else in the tank, as they seem to die...

the tank is a ten gallon thats pretty long, and it has sand. i used store sand that was good for salt and fresh water aquariums. and there was a time when i was moving tanks when i have cories in there before i got loaches and they were fine!

any idea on what happened?

ok i did two tests, a strip test and a liquid test and some of the answers are completely different (this test was done after the secondlast loach died)

here are the strip:

nitrate-0
nitrite- 0.5
GH-80
chlorine-0
KH-160
ph= 6.8

Liquid test:

nitrite-0
GH-120
KH-70
Ammonia-0

i didnt bother doing theph test again.

Liquid are more accurate, so I'd be more inclined to belive those results. It isn't possible to have a KH that is higher than GH, as GH is KH plus magnisium salts.....

Un-explained deaths could be bacteria and internal parasites... How long have you been having the deaths? Has it affected any other fish, excluding the loach?

Any other stressing factors you can think of? Kids tapping the glass for example?

All the best

How many gallons is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
Shaking can be temp to low or parasites.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
Any signs of fish swimmining oddly.
Any fish gone thin.

the deaths have been occuring over the past 6 months slowly. the only thing that i would think it is is the fact i left for a week, and there was a bad algea bloom, and then my favorite betta got dropsy :(

the loaches just seem to have died. and alot of wilders questions are answered in the first post.

i never saw any of the others acting funny, but that last one that died was shaking and placing itself in awkward positions in plants, but isnt that common with kuhlis?

and none have gone thin, if not the last one that died looked larger, but not bloaty.. more robust looking, like a female
