Sleeping Somewhere. Or doing water changes. Or run
While doing my weekly water changes today, I noticed 3 fry swimming strategically in my tank. They looked VERY close to newborn fry to me so I scooped them up with a net and put them in a breeding trap. I have no idea who the mum is. I have guppies (male and female and fry), platies (male and female) and a swordy. I also had another swordy in there but sadly she died on Friday :(

The fry look suspiciously like my last batch of guppy fry....but I also have a very heavily pregnant platy in there. All the other female fish are almost always at some stage of pregnancy so who knows.

LOL. It will be interesting to see what species they turn out to be. Does anyone have guppy and platy fry atm, or had had together in the past. Is there anything that distinguishes a guppy from a platy/swordy at such a young age?

I shall keep you updated

I've got my fingers crossed for you....not even gonna say it in case I jinx it for you. Knocking on wood as I type. I've got some pictures of couple day old "you know whats" if you want me to pm them to you!

I agree, guppies are longer, thinner. My platies' fry have more distinct and rounded dorsal and anal fins, too. I also noticed that platies have more white visible in their eyes.

I agree with guppys fry being longer and sleeker, i would watch out though as the mother fish could still be giving birth to them as when they do they don't release all the fry at once but rather in stages every 10minutes.

I swear guppies are like the rabbits of the fish world!!!!

Thanks peeps.

Funny you should mention the eye. I have a guppy girl adult with no white in her eye at all and the others with some white. I have been examining the new frys (all 3 of them) eyes.....and 2 have no white, one has some white. Though it could be me, they are SOOOO tiny. I am just trying to figure out who the mum might be :p

Unfortunately I am thinking guppy fry. I love all fry but I am sooooo desperate for swordy fry ATM nothing else will do :p Even platy fry would be nice right now!!!! All fry are cute though and I am still excited no mater what they turn out to be.

Polardbear.....you know I'd love you to PM me with a picture of your day old "you know what" fry :p I'd be keen to compare....THANKS
