Fish Fanatic
My first death and i am only 6 weeks in and utterly confused.
I woke up this morning to find 2 of my 6 blue leg hermit crabs dead. They were on the sand bed and completely out of their shells with their soft bodies missing. I immediately tested the water and all fine: ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, ph 8.2, NItrate between 5 and 10, phosphate 0 SG 1.025 Temp 27.
I later saw one of my peppermint shrimp running around with what i assume was his body - i failed to catch him and remove the body before he went and hid in the rock.
The most mysterious part of this all is i have since counted 5 hermit crabs in the tank, none of which look particularly small.
Bought 6, 2 died, 5 left!!
I had a hair algae bloom while i was away and have added rowaphos.
At the moment i have 50l of water heating and mixing ready to do my first big water change.
Previously i have been doing about 10% changes a week(25l). Is this too much/ not enough?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Donna
