Does it look like he/she is having an epileptic fit? If so, it's perfectly normal and can be a sign of aggression or part of their normal mating dance. Hilarious isn't it.

BUT when in doubt dont assume it's breeding activity, run your water tests to rule out quality issues.

If it is the mating ritual thing, can you film it? I would love to see it lol

the thing that gets me is that it is the only lab in there will it try and give some loving to other types of malawi cichlid? water parameters are fine
thanks

Mbuna will crossbreed if there aren't enough of each species. If if there are, they sometimes crossbreed anyways. I have a female lab that will only breed with one m.callainos despite there being a couple of suitable male labs in the tank.

Excellent point Waterbender, and one I shouldn't have overlooked. :good:

Arn't you suppose to keep labs in groups of 4/5 ?

Ideally yes, you get much better group behavior when you have a group obviously. You can keep a single male in an all male setup, or some people prefer single specimens of multipe species, however, you run a high risk of hybrids if you have females and males of different species together. :good:

Therealpaddy - Out of curiosity what is your stocking?

See...i started with a group...now i have one. They knocked each other off one by one. Now i have just one electric yellow lab

My lombardi's did the whole vibe and shake thing. It for them was a sign of mating and also a sign of staking their territory to. they use to always do it under their logs they would hide in when the other fish would go by.

It is hilairious to watch! Specially when they do it for ages!!
