 Every time I do a water change i fill the water up so u cant see the water level. After oh id say 2 weeks the water is about 2 inches lower under the hood. My tank isnt leaking.. could this be evaporation.. or is my tank leaking??

It is probably your water evaporating - this happens in mine occasionally - usually means I'm overdue for a water change...

Try upping your water changes to once a week - just change a little less. This way, the evaporation will not be as noticable, and as an added benefit your fish will probably be healthier and happier.

   haha sorry that just funny :dunno:  .i came to your house and stole fomr cycled water for my fish  its most likely evaporation.

And all along I thought it was pixies and small creatures coming at night to get a wee little drink  :*)

Another of my quaint theories bites the dust :byebye:

Depends really air bubles make them loose water as well, fish splashing. Last night i lost 1" of water in my 79g fron fights in the tank, there were puddles everywhere lol

if you keep youre water temp fairly high, this leads to ALOT of water evaporation.

i keep my house at 60 degrees F. my indoor humidity is basically 0%. i keep my tank at 75 degrees F. my tank evaporates about a liter of water a day. if i lower the tank tempature to 65 it cuts the evaporation in half. so tempature and air humidity and youre a/c usage can play a big role in water evaporation.

I'd say if your tank were leaking, you'd know about it. Generally fish tanks either don't leak, or when they do, they don't drip drip drip, they generally start pouring water. There is a lot of pressure on the glass walls of a fish tank.

If you only do water changes every two weeks, it is evaporation. Heck, depending on your humidity it could be evaporation even if you changed water more often.

smaller tanks are alot more noticible for evaporation. you should probably do a water change once a week, maybe just a little bit less of a percent. my brothers 10 gallon tank looks like its always evaporating, beacause its so much more noticible. i have a 20 gallon and i do a 25 percent water change every week, and i never see any evaporation before i change water

if u want to slow down evaporation try turning ur hood lights of at night. if u wast to c ur tank at night try doing a moonlighting effect w/ some blue L.E.D.
