My Water Is Too Warm!

Yeah your fish shouldnt worry about this little increase in the temp as in the wild the water would go hot and cold. i did keep neons with my discus at 30-32c and they were fine. but then i rehomed them s my discus ate one :( lol!

personally i wouldnt worry at all. just leave them but when it rockets you need to do something and when i say rock like 32+ 28 is fine most tanks are kept around that. if anything i would have said your keeping the temp a little low at 25.

Thanks for the responses. I have air stones in the tank and they bubble away madly all day and night anyway so I'm guessing my O2 level's should be just fine.

Yeah 2C is a problem, I need to keep it as close to 25C as I can as this is the hottest the Neon's can handle :) And it got to 28C today, I've now put in some reusable ice-blocks and the temp' is dropping nice and slowly :)

I have my tank regularly around the 26/27C mark and my neons are fine with it. Looking at your profile of fish i would say that all would be able to handle higher temperatures than 25C even up to 29 ish for a short period of time. If you are really concerned i would just add bottles (not sure how many, probably only one or two 500ml bottles) of ice in the morning when you leave, that will lower the tank temp in the morning so it shouldn't get quite so hot by the time you get in in the evening. But just think, free water heating, your heater should be doing virtually nothing. The main concern with warmer water is the lack of O2. Make sure you increase the aeration of the tank by adding air stones or making the filter outlet break the waters surface, or use the venturi if the filter has one.

So far i don't think you have too much to worry about at the moment.

What is a "venturi"?

A venturi is a pipe that sucks air into the return from the filter along with the water. Basically puts bubbles into the filter return water. As you're asking what it is, i guess you haven't seen a filter that offers one. Both my fluval 2 and 3 internal power filters have an attachment that puts a venturi on the output of the filter. I don't know if they are common on externals as i have never looked.

I have a Fluval underwater filter, has it got something to do with the little plug thingy? In the top of the output?

aeration is definately the key in hot weather

get an airstone running or adjust your filter output so it breaks the surface of the water.

if you live somewhere where it regularly gets that warm you could invest in an aquarium chiller.

Yeah the little plug thingey in the top of the output is the venturi fitting. Position the filter so that's above the level of the water, adjust the little wheel on top and it will suck air bubbles into the filter output.
