Just thought I'd show him off, guess he's just like any other RTBS but I think he's gorgeous, not showing any signs of agression to other fish yet but he's still young!

Nice and interesting RTBS. Looks gr8 and neat. What size of tank is he in?

Thanks for the comments, shucks! He's in a 4 foot 38 gal community tank. His current tank mates are 5 diamond tetras, 4 golden barbs, a plec, 2 swordtails and a khuli loach. His dorsal fin is a bit bent cos he shares a castle thing with the loach, I don't know how he squeezes in but he manages it! I want to take it out but he loves it. Planning on upgrading to a 6 foot tank eventually as I know him and the plec should have a bigger home but hopefully I'll get about a year out of this one.

It looks good, but that rock doesn't. Is that a piece of iron shore or coral in the tank? Most rocks found in a marine environment will be made up of dead corals/organisms and will eventually give off Calcium into the water which isn't good. It can be used for some stuff I think it hardens the water but shouldn't be used noramally unless you have very soft water. If you would like to test the rock to see if it's okay you can put a few drops of vinegar onto the surface, if it bubbles then it shouldn't be placed back into the aquarium.

Really??? OMG, what rock? The white one or the other one? I don't really know anything about the rocks, all the stuff I have I've basically inherited with the tank and fish. Tell me what one and I'll get out right away, thanks!

Its the white one, although to be honest i've got some in my tank as a buffer and its barely made a difference...
Ended up using marine gravel as well, keep an eye on your PH, and test it with vinegar if need be, while it will be slightly calciferous, in my experience it will barely make a difference to your tank....
Better safe than sorry though....

Really....
Only spotted the pale one, how would one go about testing if they are affecting the ph?
Also, could instant removal result in a PH crash?
Probably best (chick) if you test your tapwater first, in case it is quite acidic...
Here in manchester the PH is ridiculously low.
Edited to add; also how long before you'd see the rock breaking down and affecting your ph, or is that unpredictable?

Hmmm, makes sense now. The PH in both my tanks is 7.5 (I have the white rocks in both) but my tap water is only 7. I'll take them out the big tank tomorrow, really like them as well! I'll leave them in my small tank for now cos I'm planning on making that a molly only tank and they like a higher PH, don't they?

Anyhow i do look quite nice in heels, sweetie... so no hard feelings
