Hi Everyone,

After much stress, I have finally made up my mind about what fish I want to get.
They will be in a 20 gallon planted aquarium.

6 Silver Tipped Tetra - added first
6 Cardinal Tetra- added seacond
1 Ancistrus Catfish - added third.

Well, does that sound good?
I'm sorry to be picky, but could people please tell me if these fish wrk well together? Not the kinds of fish I should get instead.

Sorry for being like that.. I am just in kind of a hurry. (Have large aquarium gift certificate for fish that will run out in 1 week!)

Thanks a million-

Sounds good to me. If the tanks well planted and you have good filtration I dont see why you couldnt have
10 Silver Tipped Tetra
10 Cardinal Tetra
1 Ancistrus Catfish
Or
8 Silver Tipped Tetra
8 Cardinal Tetra
2 Ancistrus Catfish
Or you could keep it with what you said and have a pair of apisto or a group of corys.

looks good, the catfish would appreciate some bogwood, mine spends half the day glued to it.

I forgot about that. Its not just they like it they need it to help there digestive system without wood they can get some serious problems.

Yeah, I have bog wod in my tank.

I might switch to 7 of each tetra.

Thanks!

I think you could get away with more than 7 of each. If you didnt add any other types you could have 0 of both the types of tetra.

Not a bad idea:) One thing- Could I get more later, after my aquarium has been going for a few months? Or will they be agressive to the newbies?

Should be fine to add to the shoal after a few months.

Fish will get on well.

Those fish prefer softer, slightly acidic water. I would avoid them if you are in a hard water area.

Actually I live in Vancouver, Canada. The water is the most acidic and soft in Canada. The problem is getting the water to stay fairly neutrel, other wise it's 5.0!

I love soft water fish so I envy you quite a bit!

Have you tried a little coral sand to raise the hardness? That will raise the pH a little as well. Loads of tetras are quite at home in very soft water, though :)

Oh, don't worry- I'm not actually trying to lower the pH. The water seems to get more alakline over time, so I just have to do water changes alot, and I get a pH of 6.5!

Well, I think i'm going to go for
7 Cardinals
7 Silver tips
2 Ancistrus.

You see, I just went out and got a huge peice of bog wood, and I figured this tank is like catfish paradise. So I think I will get a male and a female.

Sound good?

Sounds good to me. if you want to breed the BNs it might be worth getting slate or coconut caves for them to spawn in. Just be careful not to get overrun mine are laying over 150 eggs every 3 weeks.

Um sorry-- But what does BN stand for? I guess the Catfish?
Well, I don't really care if they breed or not... But I already have a little cave made out of two peices of sand stone.. Is this good?

The common name for Ancistrus are BNs (bristlenose) They prefer spawn in something with only one entrance but if they want to spawn they will spawn on anything.

Actually im not sre if sand stone is safe for aquariums but i might be wrong. I know it will defiantly higher your PH

Thats weird. I got it from a aquarium shop, I have had it in for a month, and no problems yet. Oh, and by the way, the cave has only one exit, dosn't really matter though, I don't really mind if they spawn or not. But, thanks for the advice.

Oh and by the way, I should have known what BN stands for:)

PS Thanks for all the help!
