Hi

is my tap water safe for my tank? I know I need to use a water conditioner but just found this info from severn trent.

The only thing there that means anything to me is that the water is slightly hard. That shouldn't limit you too much as to what fish you want to add when cycled. What you could do is to contact them again and ask them when these chemicals are added to the system. Some water companies do it once weekly, some add a small amount constantly. If they do it weekly, find out which day then you can do your water change the day before.
 
As mentioned, it's a little on the hard side but nothing that's a problem. I also see that it is typical UK water with 50mg/l (ppm) of nitrate. Once again, not a problem as most people in the UK seem to have the same thing.

i got my water report form severn trent using my postcode on their web site, after using a couple of tests i see that the actual values are pretty different to the averages that severn trent gave me. so just dont assume that you are in thier estimated average range!

new to this myself, but after much reading i've only bothered buying KH, nitrate and phos tests for my planted tank (need to know KH to balance the CO2 correctly) the other 2 are the major factors in controlling algae so they are handy to know also.
