Hi mate your cichlid tank I would take out the shell dweller the lelupi its a tang and wouldnt last long in with mbuna also I would loose the fake plants and add a lot more rock work mate mbuna need lots of rock. Also before you buy any more research what you have as you have a very mixed setup and some very aggressive species, ill show you a pic of my set up to give you an idea.

Edit: your blotch is a Labeotropheus Fulleborni

wow! both of your tanks look awesome! i can see your both fans of cichlids! ive got 2 dwarf jewel cichlids bit to fast to photograph! :good:

hi,nice pics.on your 55 gallon,i would loose the fake plants and add a lot more rocks.

thanks for the replys.

which one is the shell dweller? is it the Metriaclima barlowi? i got these fish from the dreaded "mmixed african" tank (i know i know thats bad)

i am planning on going out to some parks or somethign to look for some big rocks, so i will be adding alot more rocks then what i have now. i'm hoping to have the whole back stacked like in that pic.

also real plants i really wanna add as well. i will be doing that within the next couple weeks when i can afford to get a co2 setup. i'm just afraid that the fish will just eat all the plants?

thanks for all the opinions keep em coming :)

Wow those tanks look superb.

What substrate do you use in the first tank? Does it resemble sand (only slightly larger grains?)

it's a substrate that i found at the LFS that was specially made for african cichlids. it was an eco-complete 20lbs bag. it's mixed with argonite and a few other things. i really liked the way it looked so i got it :)

Very nice tank. I liked the 55 gal tank its gr8 and the fish are ver nice in it.

real plants and mbuna dont mix mate save your money they will just get uprooted and ripped to shreds. You need to research what you have.

Great Setup in the first!

I agree though with above, get some live plants their much better than fake.
Well done with all ya tanks. :good:

Java fern, and anubias usually fare well with mbuna, but they will still try to dig them up, and any other plants will most likely get eaten/dug up.

The albino cichlids look like pseudotropheus scoolofi (albino) often sold as snow-white socolofi. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=1786

I believe the leleupi is in the third pic, under the orange zebra.

Your tank looks very nice, but I agree it will be better with more rocks. Also, you should really avoid the mixed african cichlid tank, as you will often find hybrids in there, and they can be so unpredictable.
