All my friends seemed to be getting fish tanks and were loving it so I thought I'd try, my boyfriend was going off to uni so I decided it would be good to have some company! Just a few fish I said!!
I love to document the changes of my tanks so this is a gratuitous photo post!
My first tank a azoo night and day - it came with everything so I didn't have to worry about filters etc - they seemed so complex at the time!!
I had to have gravel because the tank had undergravel filtering, I went with black and white so the fish/plants stood out.
This was my first 'aquascape' lol!
The plant on the left hand side is the only plant I have left! Its growing like mad now! *is proud*
This was my second attempt:
I started wondering what these plants were so I asked on this forum and was told they weren't aquatic plants!!
So I bought some new ones!
At this point I decided I wanted a bigger tank! And it just so happened that my friend was getting rid of his 60l! He very kindly gave it to me me - with a whole load of extras - none of which I used except for the filter!
This was the 60l's first incarnation:
A friend of mine gave me an awesome piece of wood from her axolotl tank!
I added a wall of bubbles!
I decided to change the sand to black gravel - Sand is good but it gets everywhere and needs cleaning so often!!
I added some *gasp* fake plants from a 30l divided tank that I had stopped using (ie - I broke it!!) All my plants were getting a bit sparse at this point so it needed padding.
I found an awesome deal on ebay - 25plants for £5! being a poor student who could say no! I was really pleased with my plants - I also bought some watersprite - its my favorite plant!
This is how my tank looks today!
I'm now venturing into co2 and proper planted tanks - although my plants seem to grow very well already
I have a smaller betta tank which has a good light - I'm going to attempt some dwarf hair grass possibly!
I'll probably be blogging more about it on my blog www.femgeek.co.uk - which should really be fishgeek lol!
