My Tank

If i was you id go and get my local free-ads paper. They usually have old second hand tanks often scrached or maybe without heaters or filters that you an pick up quite cheap. Then you can use them as somewhere temperory to store the fish until you can get somewhere more suitable and a bigger tank.
you must remover the goldfish now though,as they produce amazing amounts of waste and get pretty big.You can put him in anything large and watertight for afew days.preferbly less.ive even heard of people keeping them in bins etc overnight!Ask around for anyone who has a pond who maybe can help you out by taking it off your hands.Or if all else fails ask your lfs if they can take it.
you need to rehome those clown loaches though unless you have a large tank up your jumper :dunno: take them to your lfs they will usually rehome them for you

dont worry too much we all make mistakes,as long as you try to put them right! :look:

Thanks Germansheperdlver! Im definitely gonna open up the newpaper and look for tanks for rehousing my fish. If I can find a large enough one I will rehouse my Clown loaches at home with my brother. Im probably going to give him the tetras to put in his 10 Gallon. Ill give away my Goldfishes most likely. That'll leave me with my Upside Down Catfish, Female Betta, 1 Tiger Barb, and 2 Dwarf Gouramis. Would that be about okay for a 10 Gallon? :/

Don't feel bad Ninja Boy! My first aquarium was a 5 gallon with 4 guppies and 5 neons. I didn't cycle at all and they died within 2 weeks. :(

Look in the classified adds in your local paper and on E-Bay and see if you can find at least a 20-30 gallon for your goldfish for cheap. Goldfish don't need a heater and you may be able to buy a complete setup for a bargain. (negotiate too!)

p.s. did you know goldies can live for over 20 years? I had no idea when I rescued mine, and I found out after the fact that you can stunt a goldfish growth by keeping in a too small tank. My poor red cap oranda will unfortunately never grow to his full potential because I didn't know this when I rescued him.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info Fishfun!! I will be looking around alot, and now that the weekend is here, I got more time for the next couple days to scout around looking for stuff!

You know, betta's really prefer small area's with still water. You could put her in any glass container that will hold a gallon of water or more with some pretty gravel on the bottom. Then just do a 100% water change each week. If you had a leftover flower vase or something that would be better. I'm not sure but I don't think betta's get on with gourami's.

Unfortuantely don't have any info on catfish.

This website has good info on max size of fish and min tank size they require. Also, a good compatibility chart.

Not exactly.... They prefer low current, although females don't mind as much because they've got short fins, but they'd like as much space as possible. And long tanks instead of tall. A vase would be a no-no, far too tall and narrow. Most people say bettas don't get on with gouramis, but I don't particularly see why not. Females should be OK, just keep an eye out.

Hmmm, so I have a betta in a 5 gallon and I have been leaving the filter off most of the time. Should I turn the filter off or on? I heard that they naturally live in rice paddies in south east asia where the water was very still.

Still water is better, long tailed bettas don't cope well at all with current. But females and plakats don't have all the fins to lug around, so they're not too fussed about current.

1 Upside down catfish = 3.5"
2 Dwarf Gourami's = 4"
1 Tiger Barb = 3"
1 Female Beta = 2"

Total = 12.5

I would do 1 of 2 things.

a) Buy a one gallon or larger bowl for your beta
or
B) rehome your tiger barb who is a schooling fish and tends to be nippy and insecure when in not in a school of 8 or more.

p.s. don't know a thing about the catfish.... :/

Thanks! I've been wondering that for a while. (mine is a male with a lot of finnage)

Hey! I just realized they have a section on this forum where you can buy, sell, & trade! Maybe you could drop a line there....

Actually, I had been looking for other aquariums to house my fish since I got them. Its just room has been tight around here and I am a little low on cash.

I think ninjaboy has gotten the point you are all trying to make. It would probably be more helpful to him AND to his fish if the discussion would turn to ways he can go about finding a bigger tank on a small budget. It's not easy but not impossible either. I know I've done it!

There are many people who have bought nice set ups without bothering to research the hobby first. Basements and garages all over have them and many folks would just as soon sell them for a few dollars or even give them away to someone who could us them.

Let's help him out by suggesting ways for him to find them.

Awesome. My females been living with my gourami's for about 3 weeks now. She's been acting fine with them. But as of right now, I have 4 Betta's coming, 3 will be shipped on Monday and I am getting one betta this weekend. I am also buying each a 1-2 gallon Betta Bowl, Gravel, and a small plant. So I can subtract two inches from conversion of inches to gallons.

If you will be removing the female betta you should be fine. You definitely need to make sure you keep up on your water changes every week because you will be stocked to capacity. I still say rehome the Tiger Barb as they like to be in schools.

If you decide to keep the betta in the tank the gourami's may eventually become aggressive with her. Gourami's also should really have some live or frozen foods, not just flakes. Mine get brine shrimp or blood worms every other day. My upside down cat also loves them & will do all sorts of neat tricks for them. Make sure you have plenty of hiding spots in your tank for the gourami & upside down cat also. They gourami's may eventually become territorial.

If you haven't found it yet you can check here for more info on your fish Fish Index

Good luck!
