Oh my goodness! I came home from school today and noticed my 29g tank was an inch lower than when I left in in the morning! I shot off the filter and dried everything up so I am pretty sure the water is from a leak and not just a drip from the filter. It is coming out pretty fast and the floor all around the tank is soaked.

What should I do? The tank is brand new so we are going to return it tomorrow (because my dad has the only working car at his work right now) but until then, do you think the tank will be ok? I have two fish is there right now. Should I move them into the 75gallon tank or something or do you think I should just leave them until we drain it to return, put them in a temp. tank, and then set up the tank as quickly as possible?

Thanks!

What fish are they, and what fish are in the 75gal.

Any fishkeepers worst nightmare.

My stepbrother had a 55 gallon fall off the stand. He was having a party and some drunk guy fell in to it.

--CRASH!!!--

If you think the fish out of the 29gal will be ok with the fish in the 75gal, check temp and ph to match, i would strip the leaking tank down now.

Wow you guys are fast! Thanks for the replies. The 75g is filled with all small community fish and mine are swordtails, so mixing them would be fine I think. I took some of the water to set up this tank from that tank, so that helps as well.

Thanks guys, I guess I will do that and when we get the new tank tomorrow I will do a water change in the larger tank and use that water to fill the new tank?

Ps. Riverman, are you trying to give me a heart attack!! Lol, just kidding :)

ok, the fish are out and the tank is draining. This tank has been a nightmare lol (I wont bore you all with details  )! I cant wait untill its all just settled all ready!

What fish are in the 75g? You should run the filter from the 29g in the 75g to keep the bacteria alive in it and if the gravel is the same color as in the 75g to, to keep the bacteria alive in it.

If the gravel is not the same color then put it in a couple stockings (nylons) and place them in the tank. I had to do this and did not have any stockings and just used a big well rainsed bowl.

Nightmare, I had a 30G spring a leak and dump 15G of it all over the laminate flooring whilst I was at work. Suffice to say my power leads no longer live on the floor!

Durbkat is right about getting the filter over into the 75G so you can go back to the 29G without a cycle (even if it's been out for hours and the bacteria are dead, putting in in now will repopulate it).

Forget about the gravel though, it's irrelevant in the greater scheme of things unless you're running an undergravel filter.

eek! good luck with getting a refund!

my boyfriends uncle had an amazing tank
came home after a holiday to find all the water on the floor and all the fish dead, has since not found a leak in the tank, needed new carpets and all sorts as the tank was on the first floor, and to rub it in his water tank in the loft also leaked and caused wall damage on the otherside of the house. was not a good week for him!

good thing you caught your tank when you did.

Yup, the filter is running in the other tank and water was left with the rock, but i didnt transfer it to the other, wasnt thinking. The fish are doing great and adapted perfectly. Im off to switch the tank now, we called beforehand and they were very nice about it, saying we didnt have to return the whole setup and the established filter but just the tank itself.

catxx-im so sorry about your uncles tank! That must have been devastating. Im soo glad I drained it out soon, I dont wanna know what could have happened.
