You can see the redness of the water due to the bogwood tannins which are annoying me. Ive posted questions on the Beginners section for advice to remove this and it would appear the best way is to take the wood out for several weeks and continue to soak it.(Which i had done for a week already)

Any other advice would be appreciated before i take this big step!

Looks great! I really like the hood, it looks nice and streamlined.

Unfortunately soaking (and boiling) really is the only way to release tannins. :/ It's annoying...

tank looks great :good: there is a lot of reflection on the glass tho.if you really dont like the tannins take out the wood and soak it in a bucket

Ooh, I love those rock backgrounds. Frequent water changes will obviously help too.

I soaked my mopani wood for 3-4 weeks before putting it in the tank - its been in for about 6 weeks now and it still leaches out a bit, but nothing that a once weekly 25% change cant resolve - still by day 6 it can look as if someone peed in the tank

Hmmm must have a word with the kids - just in case !

I have a trigon too - they're a bugger to take pictures of because of the reflections on the curved glass.
I find it works best if you shut the curtains and only have the lights on in the tank - that way there are very few light sources to reflect on the curved glass.

If you don't have a pot big enough to boil it, I'd just leave it in. What can I say -- I'm lazy. Eventually it'll go away with water changes.

yea i soaked mine for 2-3 weks and it still leached tannins, depending on the size of the wood it should be gone within a month or so....

we stuck aHUGE bit in our trigon 350 and its still leaching 2 months later

Took the Bogwood out with the view to soak it and boil it over the next few weeks.

Any tips on how i can give my tank more of a spark so to speak?

Cheers
