Please help!! Just gone to my tank and the Xenia was flopped over - did a quick test and the PH has dropped to 6.8!!! How has this happened and what should I do. LFS is closed till tomorrow so I can't buy any new water. Will everything be OK til then. I just don't understand it - does anyone know. I'm in a right old panic now.

I should add that all other paramaters are fine - I'm only using one of those silly strips for the PH levels but they are in balance with the dKH - i.e very low as well. @Its a 55gal with loads of LR and a skimmer. I'm gonna add Kalk now, never really use it but its in the cupboard and I'm desperately worried as I'm off to work in half an hour.

CAREFUL, kalk is not something you can add quickly. It's exceptionally basic, and a pH swing too far and too fast in the opposite direction is equally bad as a low pH. Make sure you increase surface agitation and prolly a safer bet would be to slowly add some dissolved baking soda to bring the alkalinity up. this will help stabilize your pH

How has this happened

Maybe too much carbondioxide in the room where the tank is. That is the most probable cause.

Our brackish went even to ph 5.5. I noticed it only when detecting ammonia and nitrite (those bacteria go on strike when the ph falls below 6.0) as the mindlessly happy fish didn't tell me.
