adding a background makes a huge difference, might be worth picking some up from the lfs.
plus adding a few more plants would look good and as others have said bogwood always looks good and the slate is a good idea

personally i think the ford poster makes a fine background for the tank. maybe just lower it a bit so the fish can enjoy it some more.

Your best not putting a male fighter in the tank, ideally he should be kept in a seperate one. They prefer to be on their own but will also attack any fish that looks similar, especially guppies.
There's no reason you couldn't add another 3 or 4 guppies and maybe 5 or 6 neon tetras.
As for stocking capacity, everybody has their own ideas but perhaps someone else will give you an idea.

I've heard a few people saying that male fighters are a problem to other fish but mine is no trouble he's best mates with the female black mollie and just ignores all the rest, never aggressive at all.
