Yesterday i noticed a bit of a bubblenest in my sorority tank

several of the girls seemed to be hanging round it,

and my best guess for male was my DT, who has been in the tank for about 4 or 5 months now without problems, but has recently gotten brighter

i also realized at this point that "her" ovipositor had vanished!
so i moved him/her into a breeding net as i don't currently have any spare tanks. that was last night, then today had to go out early and didn't have time to check the tank, and didn't get home until late. well i got quite a surprise when i got home! my boyfriend said "this bubblenests got bigger!"

and when i had a look, i realised that the DT had jumped out of the net, and that there were eggs in the nest!

really don't know who the mum is? but my best guess is aphrodite. who had been looking very plump recently.

managed to rig up a divider to keep the girls on the other side and away from the nest as the male is getting very protective and some of the females are looking very messy! not sure how much of that is him and how much is the other girls getting possessive and jealous with each other.
not sure how many of the eggs and/or fry will make it, but its VERY exciting nonetheless!

:hyper: congrats and good luck...
what will you be feeding the fry

i have mature cultures of microworms, waterworms and vinegar eels. and i also have a bottle of attisons betta starter.

Lo, that's pretty hilarious and pretty amazing as well!
Surprised he lived so peacefully w/ the others.
Well anything can happen. I hope all the fry make it!

well i'm not entirely sure he did, i lost a few girls recently, without much in the way of symptoms except i noticed them hiding away a bit. i thought it was a bacterial infection and they were being picked on because they were weakened by the infection. still could be that of course, but maybe it was aggression from the male or due to fighting over him??

yeah fingers crossed for survival, would be interesting to see what i get out of it, with the mystery mum!

well this morning i can see at least 3 tiny tiny babies! there may be more but its a bit difficult to see properly. the bubblenest is now even bigger!

So why does the bubblenest get bigger??? Not had chance to breed mine yet x
because dad keeps blowing more bubbles into it.

have now spotted 10 at the same time, some hanging off leaves and some swimming up and down slightly from the bubblenest! how long until i take dad out? he's being really good so far.

not sure if any will survive once they are free swimming, as i managed to get a divider in, but its perforated and the babies are small enough to swim right through the holes
