I have a 2 weeks, AR-980[aquaone] tank.. I noticed 3 days ago that one of my sucker mouth fish is not very active as like before. He wasn't moving for 2 hrs.. So I tried to pull him out then suddenly, he tried to swam back a bit and thought that maybe he was just resting. Yesterday, I done my first 25% water change with antichlorine and water conditioning.. Then this morning,I saw him lying upside down in the bottom.. I lost him today.. :(
My water is fine..Done all the test..All plants are artificial..I really don't know what I've done wrong.. I have 5 tiger fish,4 gourami,2 dwarf gourami,1 sucker mouth fish[as one died today],4 swordtail,4 bala shark,2 clown loach,2 columbian shark and 4 gold fish which i put them back to the pet shop as they are attacking some of the fish in the tank.. And will have more fish coming after 6 days as I decided to trade my gold fish from our LPS.. Any suggestions of what fish to have?? And Pls.any advice how to make my fish healthy???And really don't want any of my fish to be sick and die.. Will appreciate any advice you can give me..

Cheers,
AP

first of all welcome:D

is your tank cycled? what are the water test results and how big is your tank? we need to know this before we can help :D

Welcome. first off you haven't cycled your tank therefore there is no bacteria to support the fish. is there anyway you can return them? a fishless cycle is always best IMO but if need be you can cycle with fish but its risky. if you can take the fish back then follow this route to a fishless cycle HERE, if not then follow this route HERE you may loose a lot of the fish but its all you can do. then have a read though some of the other topics HERE. sorry to overload you with info but its what you need to know in order to save your fish

Yes,as instructions from the Aquaone Manual that I had.. About 4 days,I made my tank stand and cycled first before I bought all the fish that I have now.. My aquaruim dimensions is 99 x 47 x60cm(8mm glass), Volume-215L.. My PH is 6.9... I will do everything to keep them healthy.. Thank you so much for all your replies....

You can't cycle in 4 days. It usually takes 4+ weeks. Not everything in the manuels are true. Go out, buy a liquid test kit (a must, an absolute must) test for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate and see what it says. Any trace of nitrite or ammonia and your tank is not cycled.

I am shock, to know that it will takes 4+ weeks to cycle the tank!! I even ask our LFS, he told me 3-to 4 days... Oh,my!!! I will talk to him today!!

Unfortunately, LFS probably do keep their fish in uncycled tanks like that. Many of their fish die. The 'better' ones just take them out earlier. They only say it's OK because it is, technically fishless cycled after a few weeks - but it's lost many fish along the way. Also, don't buy into most 'bacteria starter' products. Most of the member tanks have taken 6 or longer weeks to cycle.

your LFS will tell you what you want to hear so you spend your hard earned money.

youll find your fish are dieing because you have the tank stocked so heavily so quickly. as has been mentioned there isnt any of the bacteria you need in the tank to deal with the waste the fish produce.

id also lose the bala sharks and the columbian sharks as they grow to well over 12" and will soon eat your other smaller fish as well as play havoc with the nitrate/nitrite and ammonia levels.

best thing you can do is to look and see what you want at the shop and then research it here before actually making any purchases. i kno it sounds like hassle but it will save you alot of money and save you losing fish.

having said that tho you dont want to be adding much else especially anytime soon. jus let the tank balance out and get that test kit so you kno when to do water changes.

i think youll be wanting to do atleast 2 changes a week of about 20% so that the other fish survive but the test kit will tell you that.
