Samurii the second has just bred with my ct female. However the one hundred or so eggs that i saw her produce were all eaten by the male. I thought this was rare to find an egg eating male. Is there any way to stop him eating his eggs.

being very well conditioned can help, but sometimes the little buggers eat them anyways, I had one that just did the same thing and he was conditioned for over a month.

Constantine and Modaz gave me good advice on what do do with the egg eaters. One way was to steal the nest after they are done spawning and raise the babies in very shallow water and the other was to feed the daddy very small amounts of pellets during the care of the fry- not enough to pollout the water, but enough to take the edge off his hunger.

there was a thread by me somewere still on the first page that both went into greater detail with.

sorry he ate the eggs, sometimes they will do so when stressed, hungery, or for seemly no reason at all.

I just wanted to add that the male doesn't only eat the eggs because he has a taste to do so. Males will eat the eggs if they feel under threat and also if the eggs are no good, i.e the female or male is infertile leading to the eggs being infertile, this can also occure if the male is new to spawning as they sometimes dont fetilize the eggs as they should. Just bare in mind there are many factors that can lead to this happening :good:
