Awww...I just love her. I can't get over her coloring. She looks so velvety.

And yep, old enough to sex. 100% female. While it takes a year for them to mature, keep in mind they can breed at about 6 months..so if you want to keep her non-pregnant, keep her in a tank with no males.

ok so I should probably net her and put her in the breeding trap until I figure out what to do with Ajax!!!!Yea I still can't understand why she is soooo balck it is like a perfect coat! Her mother is scared of her!If Stella tries to get near her mama Maggie flips out and goes to the other side of the tank! Her aunt Attica loves her though. She stays with her alot as long as I am not feeding them!

claire

No, don't put her in a breeding net or trap. They are really too small for Mollies to be happy, and they can really stress them out which will therefore make them more prone to disease. They also get stressed to death.

You'll either have to get a seperate tank for her, preferably at least 10 gallons, or just let her and Ajax breed.

ok...Maybe I can trade Ajax in for a black male. It is all right I don't really like him because he killed my other marbled balck male named Keo.. He was so pretty!!Darn Ajax!!!Also his face is kinda messed up like deformed almost!!Ya his color my be good but his figure is bla!!! Keo was the perfect male for Stella...Oh well. I really hope Incredapet has what I am looking for!!! I think a nice big black male with the same velvet black to him as Stella would be a good pick! What do you think?

I was looking at Stella and was woundering is her tail to big? Or body to long?Is there supose to be any color in her eyes? Because her eyes are completely black nothing to them. The same is with her mom's eyes there is some color in them.

claire

Well....most Sailfin Mollies you find will be aggressive to other males, it's just their nature. You can't blame him for that, nor can you be promised that if you get another one he won't be aggressive.

Edit: No, she looks pretty good to me. No fish is really perfect, except if you breed only high-quality and pick the best of the best. She's nice. Also, her eyes aren't supposed to have coloring. :)

And yeah, a good Black with her would be nice, preferably get a non-Sailfin though.

He was only aggressive to that male and he chases the females around the tank sometimes. I just think maybe I should trade him to prevent inbreeding.....

claire

Inbreeding is when brothers and sisters breed, and since he isn't a brother or sister, he shouldn't be a problem. However, I am not surprised you are having aggression problems..some Sailfins are little stinkers! :X I suppose you will have to take him back, so the females don't get hugely stressed. What size tank is this, by the way?

They are in a 20g with angelfish that I plain to move into a 60 g very soon. Also they are in with a F8 pufferfish named Butters.

claire

Umm...if I am not mistaken, shouldn't Puffers be kept alone?

However, as soon as you have the 60g, I'd go for another male, if you can't keep him. Or if you are upgrading, maybe stick him in the 60gal with the others, and then use the 20 as a breeding tank for Stella and her mate? Though it's better to have 2-3 females per male, so you may want to try to get another black Molly too. :)

Yep, either alone, or with other puffers of their species -- depending on the species! (Some of them pretty much *have* to be kept solo.)

I would pull the figure 8 before it starts realizing that "Fins Are Fun To Nip!"

Been there, seen that.

I don't know you guys.......I have had Butters in with the mollies and angelfish for three weeks now and he has done nothing...

claire

I was thinking of moving Butters but if he is not doing any harm why should I?

Because one day he could turn around and cause a lot of harm, and it's better to be safe then sorry? :)
