Fish Fanatic
Set up a 24 x 8 x 8" tank ....6" mature water heated to 83 F, two indian almond leaves, a little sponge filter set at 1 bubble per second and a few potted and floating plants.
Put male in followed by a female in a 5 litre water bottle which had both top and bottom cut off. Both fish were conditioned for a good week on frozen bloodworm and live brineshrimp.
As soon as i added the female to the container, the male went mad and started building his bubble nest. The female, in anticipation of his advances, went very dark and showed verticle bars which indicates her readiness to spawn
So i let the female out after 24 hours and it only took about half an hour and only a bit of nipping from the male before she joined him under the nest
They went few quite a few dummy runs before any eggs were released...possibly 15-20 attempts and then she started chucking the eggs out by the bucket load.
Both male and female helped put the eggs in the nest (they're the little white dots)
Once spawning had finnished, i took the female out for her own safety and left the male to guard the eggs.....which should hatch in 36 hours and be free swimming in a further 48 hours.
And that's when the fun begins !!!
The eggs hatched after 36 hours and after another 24 hours, i removed the male as the nest had broken up and the babies were everywhere....although i couldn't see many. A small feed of microworms were given at this time just in case.
Anyway, got up this morning and i had loads of free swimming babies. Another MW feed and all seem happy.
More to report as it happens.
