if you want to put a female with it your better of getting 2 or more to be on the safe side, i have got 2 with mine and there fine

his tank is a 5g hexagonal tank would this be ok still also what if they were to breed what would i do with the fry as i have no other tanks to put them in.

nononono males and females can not be put together full stop

I second this... they will eventually kill each other. Ken25, I don't know how yours don't fight, I've never heard of it before.

In 99.9% of cases, the fish will be ripped to pieces.

He's a lovely fish Mark, I also believe he's a super delta (symmetrical circular tail).

I third this. Only put females and males in the same tank together if your breeding, or if you have a divider in between the two.

Just incase your wondering why, the male will harrass the female to death and she may nip his fins, causing him serious injurys that will lead to death. Sometimes the females can be aggressive towards the males, I have encountered this with my brothers female, killed 4 males that he tried to mate her with (not all at the same time :p), and they were big boys!
If you have anymore questions don't hesitate to contact me via pm or any other people with knowledge on bettas. I'm no expert but I do know the basics and a bit more. :)

Regards,
Neal
