Hey guys! I set up the male tank today its nearly 3G tank and I know its not ideal but i'm going to see if a male fish can live happily in it. Because of the tank size i'm limited to objects i put in, i have a cocunut cave, small airstone, indian almond leave plant, a plant with a few different stems to it and a little plastic plant. I'm not fully settled with this set-up yet but i think its looking alright, its a bit misty atm but will calm down with time (When it clears will post better pictures!). Hopefully will be getting the male tomorrow if i'm feeling alright (I've been feeling ill lately i have a headcold) . Any tips/comments/improvements wanted please, well here it is,

I'm sorry about the pics i know there not the best also the tank looks better in person.
Thanks for looking :D

Awesome, I like it, 3g is minimum for a betta but he should do fine there :D

Personally I would plant it a bit more, but obvs thats personal preference. Also, are those real or silk? *on the lookout for decent silks* And what light is it that you're using?

Overall, very nice, hope you manage to get a gorgeous lad to go in there! Any particular tail shapes /colours you're on the lookout for?

its looking good so far!!
its the same as my quaratine tank.
cant wait to see pics of the new boy!!
hope you feeling a bit better now!!! :flowers:

Yep, i think im going to plant it a bit more in a bit, just seeing how it looks for now. All plants are real, apart from the tiny one at the front is plastic, tomorrow when i get the boy i think ill buy another live plant for the tank.
I dont know what wattage the light is but the light itself is a marina spot light. They dotn really give off much light, but why this is a small tank i think it will do just fine! :good:
Rezz, My lfs only does VT's but beautiful ones! :D So i'm going to see whats there tomorrow :D

Ahh, Cool, I do remember you saying you wanted a VT actually, so you could breed with your girlies.

Only thing I would say is that your lad might tear his fins on the plastic plant :(

One of my males is in a three gallon tank and he's ammonia levels spike up VERY fast. Keep an eye on the levels. I'm changing out water ALL THE TIME. . .he has a filter and a heater.

guppygoddess; That's weird, if your filter is cycled that shouldn't happen at all.... Might wanna look into that XD

good filters are essential in small tanks. they sell fairly good ones rated for 1-3 gal tanks but a diy sponge filter is much better (more media/volume of the filter housing). anyone with a small tank should consider making their own filter. it is very easy, fairly inexpensive (most of the items are probably laying around the house anyway) and work fantastically. realistically the items needed:
airpump, tubing, media(sponges work best but can use floss too) and a container. takes no more than 10 minutes to build and they are "customizable" meaning can find a "perfect" size/shape container for the housing that will be big enough to hold plenty of media, yet not take up much space in the tank (long and slim so it fits easily in the corner)
the tank looks great. i would also suggest more easy plants like elodea which requires very little light. it will just take longer to grow to a height where you need to trim the tops off.
best of luck!
cheers

Tomorrow when i get the betta ill buy some elodea and they sell these other little plants, so will get them if possible. Just gotta hope my dad rises pocket money this weekend! Definetley getting betta tomorrow, feeling a bit better :good:

Yeah, I know it's not entirely cycled. I was under the impression that Jazmine's tank isn't cycled either because she just set it up yesterday. Possibly I misinterpreted. That is why I mentioned the ammonia. . .

I bought my betta with the hopes of keeping him in a 2-gallon. That didn't last too long.

GuppyGoddess; Ahhh, I see why you'd think that XD but I know from another convo with Jas that she'd using mature media from one of her other tanks XD Sorry for the mis-comunication!

Yes, def. get rid of the plastic plant-his tail will be in shreds! I don't think you should let the small size of the tank put you off adding stuff-bettas love tanks heavily planted :)
I'd take out some of the sand too-you'll need all the water volume you can get in there :)
Looking good though-I love the glass nuggets :)

lol Sorry, I didn't look back at her posts. I'm too preoccupied by my new otto fish and what to do with it. :)

Ive removed the little plant, i didnt realize how sharp it actually was, i nearly cut my finger on it!
I have good ideas for this tank, i will remove the indian alomd lead (seems to be dying and looks quite unbushy and small) and replace it with a nice little plant ill buy tomorrow, already got elodea in the tank now i bunched some together from another tank lol :D
(My tank doesnt have a filter, although it has cycled media & floss inside a netted material which is tied up in the back corner of the tank.)
